International Night: Thursday’s

Our mouths are watering here at the MTCC in anticipation of Kiju’s International Night!  It begins January 28th and will be featured every Thursday night.

To quote; “The world is a culinary mosaic offering exquisite foods that satisfy all tastes.  One could live a hundred lifetimes, and travel the world a thousand times, but sample only a hint of the delicacies from the world’s various regions.

Our goal is to select a different worldly delight every Thursday and create a savory three or four course meal that reflects the best that the selected region has to offer.

If you have a particular region’s culinary cuisine in mind that you would like to see us prepare, please inform your server.  With enough interest, your selection may be featured in future weeks!   End quote.

Some of you may have noticed that for the past week or so, our website has been unavailable.  What that meant for you, the patron, was no access to our shows, restaurant menu's or blogs.  All of us here at the Membertou Trade & Convention Centre, along with Kiju's Restaurant are sorry for the inconvenience caused by this.  We are pleased to have the website up and running again and look forward to serving you, our valued customer.  Welcome Back!

This is Box-Office Glenda signing off until next time, please like us on Face Book and follow us on Twitter.

Tara Hunter is the Sales Department Manager; she blew in on the scene in 2014 and hasn’t stopped since!  Tara brings 16 years experience in the hospitality industry.  Please welcome Tara Hunter.

BOX-OFFICE GLENDA:

Hi Tara, you are a whirlwind, always going in many directions at once.   What do you do at the end of the day to kick back and relax?

TARA HUNTER: Well I usually go home and unwind with my cute little rescue kitty and have a glass of wine.

Animals are terrific buddies, you can tell them all your worries and fears, and hopes and dreams, they don’t judge, they just love you, perfect way to relax Tara!

BOX-OFFICE GLENDA:

You have been living on our lovely island for over a year now; tell us something you really enjoy about life here in Cape Breton.

TARA HUNTER:  I just love that there is no traffic! And it is such a beautiful island, albeit a...

Getting to Know Marcella Marshall

Marcella Marshall (Marce, as we call her)joined the sales team in February of this year.  She brings 10 years customer service with her. Marce is a resident of Membertou and we are lucky to have her here at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre.

BOX-OFFICE GLENDA:

Hi Marce, thanks for making time for me.  I am sure you know the routine, I will ask you questions so myself and our readers can get to know you better.

In your job here at the MTCC in sales, it happens from time to time that you must meet with clients to find out their exact needs and to put that knowledge to use.  So far in your experiences, has it been an easy transition from your previous job?

MARCELLA MARSHALL:

Yes, it really turned out to be something that I enjoy very much.  Dealing with...

Culinary Charm

In today’s world, most people never learn the art of great cooking.  Executive Chef Shaun Zwarun can change that for you.  He can discover your inner chef, as you eat, drink, and learn exciting new techniques.  The January 19th class offers rustic Italian favourites, mmm pasta! (My hubby’s favourite, me, not so much, as I am more of a meat and potatoes kind of gal).

February heats up with a romantic inspired menu for 2.  (Do you HEAR that Brian!)  Of course you do, because like any good husband should, you never miss one of my blogs.

March is a salute to all things seafood,

and April’s class rounds it...

COIG was originally created for the popular Celtic Colours Festival as a promotional band and decided to stay together.  Each band member brings a unique “je ne sais quoi” to the stage.  A dynamic group of young performers with great energy, COIG owns the stage whenever and wherever they perform.  Consisting of Chrissy Crawley, Jason Roach, Rachel Davis and Darren McMullen, they capture traditional Celtic Music at its finest as demonstrated on their recent tour of Europe.

In June of 2014, COIG released the album “FIVE”; the name COIG also means 5 in Gaelic.  COIG also has a new Christmas...

Getting to Know…Terry Candelora

Terry Candelora has been employed by Membertou Environmental Services since 2011.  He is the MTCC’s main janitor/cleaner.  No matter when you see Terry, he always has a mop/broom or other cleaning aide in his busy hands.  He keeps the MTCC clean and shiny.

BOX-OFFICE GLENDA:

Hey Terry, thanks for the daily laughs.  I get such a kick out of your Wilma stories and voiceovers, too funny!  For those of you who aren’t familiar with “Wilma”, she is a doll, literally!  She belongs to Connie Osborne (Membertou Safety Coordinator) who keeps her wardrobe updated in the latest styles and fashions.  The MTCC ran a contest a couple of  years back entitled, “Where’s Wilma”.  Terry is the voice behind the doll, love it!  Terry, you are such a big guy, but seem to have no problem playing the “part” of Wilma.  What was...

November Rain

‘Cause nothin’ lasts forever

And we both know hearts can change.

And it’s hard to hold a candle

In the cold November rain.

“Guns N’ Roses”

The cold dreary weather we have been experiencing lately won’t last forever either.  Here at the MTCC, the weather doesn’t really affect us, as it is warm and inviting inside.  If you are looking to warm up with your favorite bottle of wine, join us every Wednesday evening, you supply the wine, we supply the ambiance.  What better way to spend a Wednesday night.  You can even catch the free Celtic Serenade Jam Session with Donnie Campbell and Jinks O’Neill from 6:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m.  Also happening in November is Coig on the 26th and Guy Davis on the 27th...

Getting to know…Sherry Fanning

Sherry Fanning is an employee of Membertou Environmental Services as a custodian who travels from building to building.  She works at the MTCC 2 days a week covering for Terry Candelora’s day off.  Sherry is a treat!  It is a common joke that when she works here, we “smell” her before we see her.  Just so you don’t get the wrong idea, I will elaborate on that.  Sherry loves to spray air freshener around the building, nothing heavy, just a light refreshing fragrance.  As soon as you come in if she is working, we know it by smell alone! laugh Please meet Sherry Fanning.

BOX-OFFICE GLENDA:

Hi Sherry, it is time to get...

Kiju's Fall/Winter Menu

Fall is my favorite time of year.  The beautiful natural artistry of colors welcomes me every morning on my commute into work.  If I live to be 100, I will never tire of the vibrancy and lushness the autumn brings.  It conjures up images of snuggling up to a cozy warm fireplace.  Kiju’s Restaurant has a fireplace, although I don’t think you would want to be caught snuggling!  They also have a new fall/winter menu, with the most succulent baby back ribs in an orange mango BBQ sauce and served with jalapeno corn bread, choice of potatoes, rice or a signature garden salad. For dessert, why not try the new hot apple fritters dipped in cinnamon nutmeg sugar with a signature house made sour cream ice cream.  Feast your eyes on the following!
